Wednesday 19th May 2020

Good morning my lovely and hardworking children. I hope you are feeling good this morning ready for today’s activities.

This week’s RE theme is “This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.”

In many faith traditions, the belief that the world was created by God and is a gift to be treasured is very important. This is true for Christians. In the Christian creation story we hear the phrase “And God saw that it was good,” repeated several times. He saw the goodness in His creation, right from the beginning. Think about what parts of the natural world you are most thankful for. There may be precious parts of creation that you are not able to enjoy at present because of the Coronavirus lockdown. However hopefully it will still be there for you to revisit when this is all over. For many Christians, the immense beauty of the natural world helps them to worship God. Christians believe that when God created the world, he gave humans responsibility to look after it – to care for it and one another. Many people of all faiths and none, share the belief that humans have a responsibility to care for our world.
There are many ways in which the world has been hurt by humans mistreating it in the past. For example there have been problems with climate justice.
However over the last few months since the Coronavirus pandemic began, there have been ‘silver linings’ amongst the worrying and sad things that have been happening because of
Covid-19. For example there has been much less air pollution, climate damage is less and humanity is looking after each other much better than before. We can be part of finding
solutions to the problems of mistreatment of God’s creation by practical positive actions that we can do individually and collectively. We can all contribute to a better world, even in
small ways. Through Coronavirus time we are seeing wider societal good changes already happening which our individual actions can be framed in. There are hopes for a better future,
the seeds of a more sustainable future have already been planted. “Love never fails. Coronavirus impacts all of us. But love unites us all.” (Christian Aid.) Letters for creation is a project that invites children to tell the people in charge what they think about climate change and how they need to look after our world. Pupils are encouraged to write a letter for creation and send it to Christian Aid. There will be an exhibition touring around cathedrals and the United Nations Climate Change Conference in Scotland to showcase a selection of these letters.

Questions to think about:

What makes our world wonderful and good? How can we look after our world well? If you could say something to the people in charge about looking after our planet, what would
you say?

Good morning my lovely children!

Our theme for this week’s collective worship is ‘The Blessing UK’

Something To Reflect On:

A blessing is a prayer for God’s favour and protection. The prayer sung in this song is over 3,000 years old and can be found in the Bible in the book of Numbers chapter 6. According to the Bible, it was first spoken to Moses by God and prayed over the Israelites, God’s people, now known as the Jews.
This version of the prayer is a song and features dozens of UK musicians from over 65 churches with different traditions, filmed separately and put together to form a crescendo of praise. Since its release on YouTube it has had 2.27 million views with the comments underneath saying things like ‘this gave me chills’, ‘awe-inspiring’ and ‘it gives me hope’.
The words say that God is for us, which means God isn’t against us. The words say God’s presence can be with us, which means he is always there. And the prayer asks for God’s favour to not just be on us now, but on those younger than us in our families and even on their children, the children that aren’t yet born.

Spiritual

A moment of collective worship with your family

Something the reflect on

During the Coronavirus pandemic, people are having to stay in their homes for most of the time and stay away from each other to stop the virus from spreading. However last Thursday evening at 8:00.p.m something special happened. Although people still stayed physically apart from each other, the country joined together in ‘Clap For Our Carers.’ Millions of people stood in their front doors, at their windows or outside in streets clapping their hands. People were saying ‘Thank you’ to those in the NHS for all their caring of people who are ill with Coronavirus. We must never forget to appreciate what others are doing to care for us during this worrying time, all sorts of people working hard doing all sorts of jobs. Through upsetting times it is good to know that there is always goodness in the world, people who are acting in the way that Jesus commanded us to live, looking after one another.

Song of the Week

When I needed a neighbour

Prayers

Gracious God,
Give skill, sympathy and resilience to all who are caring for the sick and your wisdom to those searching for a cure.
Strengthen them with your Spirit,
that through their work many will be restored to health,
Through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Dear God

I thank you for the gift of knowledge! I praise you that you provide us with brains to think and question the world around us. I pray you would help our children learn well and flourish. May they discover their unique talents and giftings. Give them a passion for the world around them.

Amen

Who would you like to say thank you to?

Please write a prayer for our special nurses and doctors in our hospital. I would like to read your lovely prayers. Please post your prayer for me to read.

Spiritual

This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it

What freedom do you still have whilst in ‘lockdown’? Could the temporary situation of being indoors open up opportunities and ‘freedom’ you haven’t thought about before because busyness was stopping you from seeing them? What is the ‘freedom’ that God gives through His Spirit?

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Thank you that you are not restricted by walls, rules or rulers.
We ask that you would reveal to us the freedom you have for us.
Give your freedom today to those who are alone, restricted, limited and can’t see a way out
Amen

Have a lovely weekend

Stay safe

HAPPY EASTER TO YOU ALL

Spiritual

Hope is essential

“Jesus Christ is risen! He is risen indeed, alleluia!”

Something To Reflect On:

Have you come across the Portable Priest? A church leader in Notting Hill, West London is using an adapted bike and speakers to bring hope to his area. Following the closure of his church as part of the nationwide lockdown, Rev’d Pat Allerton has been visiting streets to pray and play a hymn through the speakers in the open air. He makes sure he is always 2 metres away from others and sees his activity as essential. Why does he do it? Because he says hope is essential and people need it more than ever. He believes that hope can be found in the ‘God of green hope’ as Romans 15 verse 13 says. Why green hope? Because green symbolises new life. When hugs and kisses become weapons that could hurt others and an act of love is staying away, the message that God can be present with people wherever they are is a message of hope.

Prayer

Heavenly Father,
Would we be filled with the life giving energy of the Holy Sprit so that we brim over with hope.
Would we share this hope with those around us.
Would we root our hope in the Easter story when Jesus overcame death and gave us the biggest reason to hope.
Amen
